Rose apple, poma rosa in Mexico, is named for its remarkable perfume: the pale yellow, blushing fruit smell and taste like rose water. The hollow fruit has crisp, light, mildly sweet flesh around one or two loose seeds, and is eaten fresh or used in jams, syrups and aguas frescas. The tree is a dense, attractive evergreen with long, glossy leaves, coppery new growth and fluffy, creamy-white powder-puff flowers. It grows easily in warm, humid regions and makes an excellent shade tree or windbreak. Grown on our farms in Yucatán and Chiapas and shipped via DHL.

How to Care for It

Grow in full sun or light shade in moist, fertile soil; it tolerates a range of soils provided they do not dry out completely. Water regularly, especially during flowering and fruiting. Feed with balanced fertiliser or compost twice a year. Young trees should be protected from frost. Prune after fruiting to keep the tree compact and fruit within reach. Do not eat the seeds.

The backbone of a tropical orchard. Mangoes, Booth 8 avocado, red mamey, chicozapote, carambola, dwarf coconuts, jackfruit and dragon fruit: reliable, productive trees that thrive in Mexico's warm lowlands and coasts, grown on our farms and shipped by DHL.
