Jambolan Plum Tree (Jambolán)

Syzygium cumini

Sale price: $275 MXN Regular price: $325 Save $50 (15% off)

Jambolan, also called Java plum or jamun, is a large, fast-growing evergreen that bears heavy crops of olive-sized, glossy, deep-purple to black fruit. The juicy flesh is sweet with a pleasantly astringent, slightly tart finish that leaves the tongue purple. It is eaten fresh, often with a pinch of salt, or made into juices, jams, syrups and wine. In India and Southeast Asia it is a much-loved summer fruit. The tree gives dense shade and tolerates heat, drought and varied soils, but place it away from patios, since fallen fruit stains. Grown on our farms in Yucatán and Chiapas and shipped via DHL.

How to Care for It

Plant in full sun in deep, well-drained soil; it adapts to sandy, clay and limestone ground. Water regularly while young; established trees tolerate dry seasons. Feed with compost or balanced fertiliser once or twice a year. Mature trees handle brief light frost. Give it plenty of space and prune when young to form a strong framework; avoid planting near paving or parked cars.

The backbone of a tropical orchard. Mangoes, Booth 8 avocado, red mamey, chicozapote, carambola, dwarf coconuts, jackfruit and dragon fruit: reliable, productive trees that thrive in Mexico's warm lowlands and coasts, grown on our farms and shipped by DHL.
