Jackfruit Tree (Yaca)

Artocarpus heterophyllus

Sale price: $365 MXN Regular price: $520 Save $155 (30% off)

Jackfruit, yaca in Mexico, produces the largest tree-borne fruit in the world, often weighing 10 kg or more and growing straight from the trunk and thick branches. Ripe jackfruit is filled with golden, chewy-crisp bulbs that are intensely sweet and fragrant, with notes of banana, pineapple and bubblegum. Young, unripe fruit is cooked as a savoury vegetable and popular as a meat substitute, and the seeds can be boiled or roasted. Nayarit is Mexico's leading producer, and the tree thrives in warm, frost-free lowlands. Grown on our farms in Yucatán and Chiapas and shipped via DHL.

About the Jackfruit Tree (Yaca)

How to Care for It

Plant in full sun in deep, well-drained soil; jackfruit cannot tolerate waterlogged roots. Water regularly, especially while young and during fruit development. Feed three or four times a year with balanced fertiliser and compost. Protect young trees from frost. Prune early to keep fruit-bearing branches low and the tree a manageable height, and support or thin heavy fruit.

The backbone of a tropical orchard. Mangoes, Booth 8 avocado, red mamey, chicozapote, carambola, dwarf coconuts, jackfruit and dragon fruit: reliable, productive trees that thrive in Mexico's warm lowlands and coasts, grown on our farms and shipped by DHL.
