Mammea americana
The mammee apple, called mamey de Santo Domingo or zapote domingo in Mexico, is a handsome evergreen with thick, glossy leaves and fragrant white flowers. Its round, russet-brown fruit can grow larger than a grapefruit and hide firm, golden to orange flesh with a sweet, apricot-like aroma. The flesh is eaten fresh after peeling away the skin and the bitter white membrane, or cooked into preserves, pies and drinks. Not to be confused with mamey sapote, it is a long-lived tree for warm, frost-free gardens. Grown on our farms in Yucatán and Chiapas and shipped via DHL.

How to Care for It
Plant in full sun in deep, well-drained soil; it adapts to many soil types, including limestone. Water regularly while young and during dry seasons, then moderately once established. Feed two or three times a year with a balanced fertiliser and compost. It is very sensitive to cold, so choose a frost-free site. Prune lightly to shape and to remove dead or weak wood.
Grow fruit most people have never tasted. Our exotic fruit trees, from Monthong durian and Emperor lychee to jaboticaba, achachairú and red finger lime, are raised on our farms in Yucatán and Chiapas and shipped by DHL across Mexico. Most love heat and humidity; several do beautifully in large pots.
