Achachairu Tree

Garcinia humilis

Sale price: $865 MXN Regular price: $1,235 Save $370 (30% off)

Achachairu is a Bolivian cousin of the mangosteen, bearing egg-sized, bright-orange fruit with a thin, easy-to-crack rind. Inside, the snowy-white flesh is juicy and refreshingly sweet-tart, with a flavour often compared to lemonade or a tangy mangosteen. The tree is compact, with a neat pyramidal shape and glossy leaves, and it is generally easier and faster to bring into fruit than true mangosteen. It suits warm, humid gardens and can be kept in a large container. Grown on our farms in Yucatán and Chiapas and shipped via DHL.

  • Mangosteen relative with sweet-tart flesh
  • Bright-orange, easy-to-open fruit

How to Care for It

Grow in full sun or light shade in rich, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Keep it evenly moist and mulch generously; it does not like to dry out. Feed every two to three months during the warm season with balanced fertiliser and compost. Protect from cold snaps near freezing and from strong winds. Little pruning is needed; just remove damaged branches and keep the central leader.

Grow fruit most people have never tasted. Our exotic fruit trees, from Monthong durian and Emperor lychee to jaboticaba, achachairú and red finger lime, are raised on our farms in Yucatán and Chiapas and shipped by DHL across Mexico. Most love heat and humidity; several do beautifully in large pots.
