Magnolia grandiflora
Southern magnolia is one of the most elegant evergreen trees you can plant. Its large, leathery leaves are glossy dark green above and often rusty-brown beneath, and from late spring through summer it opens enormous, creamy-white, cup-shaped flowers with a rich, lemony fragrance. Cone-like seed pods with bright red seeds follow. It forms a stately, pyramidal tree for parks, avenues and large gardens, and is especially at home in Mexico's temperate highlands and subtropical valleys, where it is a familiar sight in plazas and gardens. Grown on our farms in Yucatán and Chiapas and shipped via DHL.

How to Care for It
Plant in full sun or light shade in deep, fertile, slightly acidic, well-drained soil. Water regularly for the first few years and during dry spells; mulch to keep roots cool. Feed in spring with a balanced or acid-loving plant fertiliser. It is cold-hardy and frost is not a concern in most of Mexico, but it dislikes extreme lowland heat. Prune lightly, only to shape, after flowering.
Trees that shape a garden: the purple spring haze of jacaranda, fragrant magnolia and the slim, columnar mast tree, ideal for privacy screens and formal entrances. Grown on our farms and shipped by DHL.
