Jacaranda mimosifolia
Few sights announce spring in Mexico like the jacaranda. In late winter and spring this graceful tree is covered in clusters of bell-shaped, lavender-blue to violet flowers, often before its new leaves appear, then carpets the ground in purple. The fine, fern-like foliage casts light, dappled shade the rest of the year. Introduced from South America, it is now a beloved emblem of Mexico City and many highland and subtropical cities. It flowers most spectacularly where winters are dry and mild. Grown on our farms in Yucatán and Chiapas and shipped via DHL.

About the Jacaranda Tree

How to Care for It
Plant in full sun in well-drained, sandy or loamy soil; it does poorly in waterlogged ground. Water regularly during the first couple of years, then sparingly; too much water and fertiliser reduce flowering. Feed lightly once a year if needed. Young trees need protection from frost, while mature trees tolerate light frost. Prune in winter to shape the crown and remove crossing branches.
Trees that shape a garden: the purple spring haze of jacaranda, fragrant magnolia and the slim, columnar mast tree, ideal for privacy screens and formal entrances. Grown on our farms and shipped by DHL.
