Smooth Sweet Lime Tree (Lima Lisa)

Citrus limetta

Sale price: $155 MXN Regular price: $195 Save $40 (21% off)

Lima Lisa is the smooth-skinned sweet lime: a round, pale yellow fruit without the pointed tip of the Chiche type, with an oily, perfumed rind and soft, juicy flesh that is sweet and almost acid-free. Peel it and eat it in segments, or juice it for a delicate drink; many families keep a tree just for the scent of its blossom. Sweet limes ripen mainly in autumn and winter and are a traditional part of Mexican Christmas fruit. The tree is easy-going, productive and grows well in the tropical lowlands and frost-free highlands alike.

How to Care for It

Plant in full sun in deep, well-drained soil; citrus hates waterlogged roots, so raise the bed on heavy clay. Water deeply once or twice a week in the dry season and let the topsoil dry between waterings. Feed with a citrus fertiliser with micronutrients (zinc, iron, magnesium) three times a year, mulch without touching the trunk, and remove shoots that sprout below the main branches.

Fresh limes for every taco and juice from your own tree. Persian, Colima and criollo limes, Valencia and navel oranges, five mandarins, grapefruit, pomelo and Yucatán's own lima de chiche, grown on our farms and shipped by DHL to most of Mexico.
